Transparent & Democratic Government
Local government exists to serve the people of Wilmot, not the other way around.
Residents deserve a government that is transparent, accountable, accessible, and committed to putting residents first.
That means communicating openly, responding promptly, treating every resident with professionalism and respect, and ensuring people understand how decisions are made.
I believe the best decisions are made through open debate, collaboration, and respect for the democratic process. Council works best when every elected member has a meaningful voice, committees are empowered to examine issues in greater detail, and residents have meaningful opportunities to participate.
As Mayor, my first choice will always be collaboration. I am committed to governing through open debate, consensus, and respect for Council's role. I will not use Strong Mayor Powers to circumvent that process. They would only be considered in the most exceptional circumstances, where doing so is clearly in the public interest.
I will strengthen Council's role by making greater use of committees and appropriate delegation of authority to encourage thoughtful discussion, improve oversight, and bring well-informed recommendations forward for public debate.
To me, a strong Mayor isn't measured by how much power they have. A strong Mayor respects your tax dollars, explains decisions, listens before acting, and never forgets that the Township exists to serve the people of Wilmot.
I will:
- Foster a resident-first culture built on professionalism, respect, responsiveness, and accountability.
- Provide regular updates to keep residents informed.
- Improve communication through multiple platforms.
- Hold regular community meetings across Wilmot.
- Be accessible and visible throughout the Township.
- Clearly explain major decisions and votes.
- Foster a collaborative Council that values open discussion, shared responsibility, and evidence-based decision-making.
Trust is earned through transparency, accountability, and service.
